Fattoria Pianetti is a farmhouse nestling amongst century-old oak trees, overlooked by mountains. It is surrounded by fields, with cows and goats grazing nearby. It is located within the Madonie National Park, 700 metres above sea level, 14 km from the seaside resort of Cefalů, and an hour from Palermo by car or train. Fattoria Pianetti is strategically placed for excursions to Agrigento; Piazza Amerina – with its famous Roman villa; Segesta with some of the most notable temples in the Mediterranean; Erice; and San Vito Lo Capo, and you can still get back in time for dinner! Inland, only a few kilometres away are some of Sicily’s most charming medieval villages like Ganci, Castelbuono, Polizzi, Petralia that in summer celebrate their own Saints’ days, with holy processions that provide a fascinating insight into local culture. The outbuildings, originally sustained by the production of cheese, have now been converted into holiday cottages. The simple but cosy rooms, each with their own bathrooms, are a stone’s throw away from the communal dining room. Looking out onto the fields and surrounded by woods, this eighteenth century farmhouse offers views of Palermo on a clear day. The restaurant serves typical Sicilian food with locally grown ingredients. Horse riding lessons, pony trekking and guided Nature walks are also available, as are meditation, self-healing and bio-energetics. In July and August there are daily boat trips from Cefalů to the Aeolian islands. |
